A more detailed description to the cost of being in a drum corps can be found in an article written by Emily Tannert called Making it happen, financially.  It can be found here.

A soon to be member of Drum Corps International (DCI)

To get this corps up and running some major problems need to be addressed:

1)      Funding – We are looking at a budget of $150,000 to $200,000

2)      High school bands are hesitant to support us because we are touring during the summer when they need students for local events.  To overcome this we could say you must have a high school diploma, but that would severely hurt us now.

3)      Some high schools charge a participation fee, so do we.  To be in both could cost up to $2000.

4)      After high school many are looking to serve in LDS missions.  To keep the church happy, we could say if you are LDS you must be under 19, have sent in mission papers, or have already returned.  But you can see the problems with this too.
